面对突如其来的新型冠状病毒肺炎疫情，中国数学会会员肖燕妮教授所带领的西安交通大学数学与统计学院生物数学团队在2003年成功预测SARS流行趋势的基础上，与陕西师范大学生物数学团队、加拿大吴建宏教授团队合作，深入开展新型冠状病毒发展趋势和未来传播风险的研究，基于新型冠状病毒的传播机理、密切跟踪隔离和封城等策略，建立了符合实际的数学模型，对疫情发展进行了精准的短期预测。模型预测结果与报告疫情数据基本一致，相关研究成果被《科学网》专题报道。该团队的研究成果为国家疫情防控工作提供了重要参考。
同时，为全力做好新型冠状病毒感染的肺炎防控工作，学院徐颂华教授领导的医学人工智能团队联合大数据算法与分析技术国家工程实验室、西安交大第二附属医院医学人工智能研究院技术力量，为西安交大第二附属医院紧急开发出一套免费在线健康咨询、问诊与新冠风险筛查系统。该系统是一款综合的医疗在线服务平台，打通了医疗环节中的各参与者、各系统、各终端，实现互联互通，促进信息数据充分流动，为患者提供疾病问诊、健康答疑、病情跟踪、实时监护等一站式医疗服务。通过这套系统，患者可直连西安交大二附院相关科室资深医生，进行远程健康咨询、问诊与新冠风险筛查。《科技日报》专题报道了平台建设相关情况，据悉，该团队也在继续免费为全国各大医院、相关管理部门提供相关服务，为遏制疫情蔓延、打赢疫情防控阻击战贡献力量。
