As a Chinese American mathematician, a foreign academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Shiing Shen Chern is a worldwide math master and he made outstanding contributions to the development of mathematics. Professor Chern was very concerned for the development of the Chinese mathematics career. For decades he did a lot of work on the development of Chinese mathematics career and the training of talents in mathematics. In order to affirm the merits of Professor Chern and encourage the young and middle aged mathematicians in China to contribute to the development of Chinese mathematics, the Standing Council of the Chinese Mathematical Society decided to launch the "Shiing Shen Chern Mathematics Award". The award aims the young and middle aged mathematicians of China who had made outstanding achievements in the field of mathematics. Chinese Mathematical Society set up and hosted the "Shiing Shen Chern Mathematics Award" which initiated and donated by Elite Industrial Holdings Limited. The Chinese Mathematical Society is responsible for deciding and awarding of the award. Since the beginning of the establishment in 1986, "Shiing Shen Chern Mathematics Award" has been held for 21 sessions. The "Shiing Shen Chern Mathematics Award" is awarded annually since 2022, with no more than two Chinese mathematicians awarded, and each winner will be rewarded 100,000 RMB.
