Professor Jiaqing ZHONG was very concerned about the development of the Chinese mathematics career and had striven for his lifetime. He had said that the development of mathematics depended on the active cultivation and selection of outstanding young mathematicians. He sincerely wishs to establish a fund in China to reward outstanding young mathematicians. In order to commemorate him and achieve his last wish of developing Chinese mathematics career, some Chinese mathematics scholars and some Chinese mathematicians in America co-organized the Zhong Jiaqing fund, and launch the Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Award in 1987. The Chinese Mathematical Society is commissioned to undertake this award, for deciding and awarding the most outstanding doctoral students who major in mathematics. This Prize aims to encourage more young scholars dedicated to the mathematics career, making more remarkable achievements. Since the year 1988, the Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Award has been held for 18 sessions, a total of eighty-two doctoral students and graduate students had won the award, and the winners have all become the backbone in the field of mathematics. The Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Award has played an important role in promoting the development of Chinese mathematics. Since the 13th Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Award in 2017, it has been donated by the Higher Education Press. The Zhong Jiaqing Mathematics Award is awarded annually since 2022,with no more than four winners awarded, and each winner will be rewarded 15,000 RMB.
