The 13th General Assembly (GA) of the Chinese Mathematical Society (CMS) is ending. The 13th president, vice-presidents, secretary-general and council of CMS were elected during the GA.

On behalf of the 13th council members, I would like to thank all members of the Chinese Mathematical Society for their trust!

The Chinese Mathematical Society is an academic social organization of Chinese mathematicians and an important force in the development of Chinese mathematics career. Under the leadership of academician Yaxiang YUAN, the president of the 12th Council of CMS, the management and operation of CMS has been further standardized and its influence has been further enhanced, which has made a lot of contributions to promoting the development of mathematics in China. On the system construction and management operation, academician Yaxiang YUAN advocated and established the new-membership system of CMS, clarifying the rights and obligations of members, making members more responsible and belonging, and more conducive to gathering the power of mathematicians across the country. Academician Yaxiang YUAN and the members of the 12th Council also made efforts to make the content of the annual meeting of CMS become more academic, and invited outstanding mathematicians who were active in the front of the international mathematics to make plenary talks and sessional talks, which greatly enhanced the academic influence of the annual meeting of CMS.

On international exchanges and cooperation, under the active promotion of academician Yaxiang YUAN and other mathematicians, the Silk Road Mathematics Center (SRMC) was established in 2016, and it located at the office of CMS. Since its establishment, the SRMC has organized regular academic activities to promote mathematical exchanges and cooperation among the countries of "Belt and Road". Academician Yaxiang YUAN and other members of the 12th Council also made a lot of efforts to increase the cooperation and exchange in the field of mathematics among China, Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa. Since 2016, the BRICS Mathematics Conference has been held regularly, which has promoted the sharing of recent mathematical research results. Under the leadership of academician Yaxiang YUAN, there are still many achievements in the work of the 12th Council. Due to the limited time, I will not enumerate them all here. Let's give our warm applause to the 12th Council and all previous Council for their efforts and hard work in promoting the development of mathematics in China! Our 13th Council will certainly live up to your great trust and do our best to fulfill our mission.

It can be said that CMS is a big family, and the development of CMS is closely linked to the development of Chinese mathematics. The wisdom, courage, diligence, exploration and innovation of Chinese mathematicians are important forces driving the development of Chinese mathematics. Of course, most of the time, each of us has own views and ideas, and everyone has his own interests and aspirations. It is impossible for all of us to agree on some matters, especially important ones. However, no matter how different your opinions and expressions may be, I believe that all of you must be based on a common wish, that is, to better develop Chinese mathematics.

Chinese mathematics has entered a new historical period. There are opportunities as well as challenges on the road ahead. Under the new situation, to promote the development of Chinese mathematics, we must first be more confident. After generations of Chinese mathematicians' hard work, mathematics in China has made great progress. In recent years, a large number of outstanding talents who are active in the international mathematics have moved back to work. At the same time, we have trained many excellent young people in our own country. We can say that our mathematics talent team is becoming more and more substantial, and has achieved a series of first-class original achievements, which shows the strength of Chinese mathematicians. At present, our country's total GDP has reached the second largest in the world, and our country is striding forward to become a world power. Governments at all levels have successively issued policy documents to increase investment in and policy support for basic sciences such as mathematics; all sectors of society are also aware of the importance of mathematics, and our overall environment for mathematics research and talent training has been significantly improved. In this regard, on the one hand, we must have academic confidence. We must continue to broaden our academic viewpoint, form our own independent judgments, be good at breaking through the limitations of inherent thinking, and dare to challenge major problems, increase self-confidence in solving big problems, and strive to explore new paths in academic research to obtain more significant research results. On the other hand, we must have confidence in talent training. There are many young talents with mathematics development potential in our country. Their level is not worse than that of foreign students. We must have the insight to identify talents and cultivate them with our heart. The hope for the future of Chinese mathematics lies in young people. We must have the self-confidence and grace of adult beauty, and provide young people with more practical guidance and more opportunities to help them develop and grow better. In the new situation, we need to be more united to promote the development of Chinese mathematics. Everyone chooses to become a member of the CMS because of their trust and recognition of our organization.  It is also believed that through this group organization, the wisdom and strength of a single mathematician can be better connected with the whole group of mathematicians, so that their mathematics can be developed. At the same time, we can work together to promote the development of Chinese mathematics and deal with the challenges and difficulties in the development process. At present, our country can be said to be a big country in mathematics, but we still have a certain gap with the strong countries in mathematics. For example, our original innovation with world impact, top young talents in mathematics and top mathematicians who can play a role and have influence in the international mathematics community are not enough. All these require Chinese mathematicians at home and abroad to unite, unite all possible forces, respect and support each other, and create a stronger and more relaxed atmosphere which is more conducive to the growth of talents and the environment for mathematics research. We welcome the majority of mathematicians to actively participate in various activities of CMS, invest in the development of Chinese mathematics, provide advice and suggestions for the work of CMS, and do more practical and good things for the development of Chinese mathematics.

The Chinese Mathematical Society will continue to unite the vast number of mathematicians and continue to work hard to promote the development of Chinese mathematics and realize the goal of a powerful mathematical country! Our responsibility is weightier than Mount Tai, and our journey ahead is long and arduous. Let us all work together, and the future of Chinese mathematics will be better!
